Giving Thanks
Thanks giving, giving thanks. Two simple words, compounded, to create this, my favorite holiday of the year.
Today I focus on the spirit of this day. I recommit to carry the true meaning of these words through my life, a day at a time.
I give thanks:
For this day, all I have, all any of us has, really. A gift to be grown or tossed away. My choice.
For so many gifts, so freely given, and daily opportunities to pass these gifts on through the karmic chain.
For friends whose trust I have earned through my own. Who show up, time and again, holding the corners of my net. For the honor of holding a corner of theirs.
For health, that huge and invisible thing that underlies so much of everything else I often take for granted.
For Breath. In. Out.
For Faith. How even on the darkest day, I get a flash of hope if only I am willing to see: a pinhole of a star, a rainbow, a sunrise, a smile. So very often of late, faith dressed in the human form of kindness or unexpected generosity, caring, connection.
For the memories of those no longer on this earth, whose love still buoys me.
For this sunrise, and one more day to gobble up this perfectly imperfect world.
